English alder (Alnus glutinosa) is a favoured wood for walking stick and cane handles. It is prized for its exceptional workability, lightweight feel, and fine-grain finish. It sits on the softer end of the hardwood spectrum, making it highly responsive to hand tools while retaining enough durability for everyday use. All wood used is UK sourced and UK grown.

All wood kiln, air dried or recycled. I cut a few blanks at a time. I look for grain and interesting patina.

Product Description
A crafted handle blank made from natural wood enabling the buyer to finish. Each handle is finished 'over sized' to allow for waste material to be removed and attach to a shank up to an inch and a quarter in thickness.

How to use
Simple tools and a bit of work will soon have your handle ready to fit to a suitable shank.

I recommend and use a traditional peg and socket joint. I do not recommend or use threaded rods. Wood is a natural material and should be allowed to move and flex. Using a threaded rod does not allow natural movement of the wood therefore is liable to cause breakout.
